What is SEO and does your site need SEO

Off late, SEO is the mantra everywhere. Browse any Article Directory and you are sure to find a list of articles about SEO tips, SEO myths and so on. But what exactly is SEO? Does it really bring in more visitors? Are you losing out by not using it? Find the answers to these questions and more.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which simply put is the way to optimize your website so that Search Engines can index your pages better. If your website is optimized for the Search Engines, then it would appear in top search results. Now, who doesn’t want that? Whether you are running a Small Business website, or a personal Blog, you would want more visitors to visit your website. This would mean more business for you and/or more advertising revenue. There are countless websites on the website whose sole income is via Google Ads – thanks to the huge volume of visitors they receive!
Do you need SEO for your website?
In a single word, yes. If you have a Small Business website, then you certainly need SEO. Imagine a potential customer searching for a keyword relating to your business. If your competitor’s website appears on the top of the search results and your website appears deep inside the 3rd page of the results, which are the users most likely to visit?
So, what next?
I am not advocating that you should spend large sums of money on SEO firms – it is actually possible to do SEO on your own. Don’t believe me? Though I have been using the Internet for several years, I heard the term SEO only a few months ago. We had just launched a Small Business website and I kept hearing the term SEO and I had no clue about it. I just did a lot of research on the Internet, implemented as many SEO techniques as I could on my site. Now, my website consistently appears on the first page of Search Results for various keyword searches. Know what the interesting part of this is? I have minimal knowledge of HTML and zero knowledge of PHP! Imagine what you could achieve if you can rope in someone with a little programming knowledge as well.
There are countless resources on the Internet that help you with SEO techniques. With some patience and effort, you can work on your website SEO on your own! With every other website optimizing their websites for Search Engines, it would only be prudent to do so for your own site. Don’t be left out.
